Peace and Environment Essay Celebration 2010
Ten years ago, Partners for Violence Prevention teamed-up with the West 7th Neighborhood's local newspaper, the Community Reporter, in order to develop a Peace and Environment Essay Contest for school aged children. Since then, every year essay topics revolving around peace and environment are distributed to all of the schools in the West 7th Neighborhood, in order for children grades 3-8 to participate. Once the children have submitted their essay, they have the opportunity to be published in the April issue of the Community Reporter. At least one child from every classroom that participated is published in the Community Reporter. All of those children who were published in the Community Reporter are then invited to the Peace and Environment Essay Celebration, where those children published will read their essay aloud to family and friends.
