More than four out of five respondents to a new poll on volunteering agreed that service work improves physical health, according to Reuters.
Of more than 4,500 Americans surveyed by United Healthcare and the national nonprofit organization VolunteerMatch, 84 percent said they believe volunteering promotes better health. Two-thirds of respondents who do volunteer work said it makes them feel healthier.
Volunteers experience less anxiety and stress and are less likely to suffer from obesity than nonvolunteers, according to the poll.
