Internship Opportunity with Partners for Violence Prevention: 

Violence Prevention with a Focus on Youth and Community

Time Requirements:

  • Internship office hours must be completed during typical agency hours; Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm; must be able to work some evenings
  • Intern is allowed to complete hours independently, however, it is required that the intern regularly check-in and communicate with supervising staff, with at least one day of the week being spent in the office when supervisor is present.

Possible Internship Projects/Responsibilities

  • Peace and Environment Essay Contest
    • Intern is responsible for collaborating with the local community newspaper, the Community Reporter, in order to develop peace and environment essay topics for local neighborhood schools
    • Intern will distribute essay topics to schools
    • Intern will review all essays submitted, along with the Community Reporter staff, in order to chose those essays which will ultimately be published in the Community Reporter; intern will also assist the Community Reporter staff with the typing of these essays
    • Intern will coordinate a  public reading event for those children whose essays were published in the Community Reporter
    • Continued Collaboration with Local Schools
      • Intern will continue to monitor and collaborate with local schools which the agency has previously established partnerships with
      • Intern will accompany staff on meetings with schools and assist in the development of new school partnerships
      • Submit Monthly Article to be Published in the Community Reporter Newspaper
        • Intern will write a monthly article, revolving around the topics of peace and non-violence and current PVP events, to be submitted to the Community Reporter
        • Article will also be emailed to staff’s school contact list
        • Summer Intern; Peace and Environment Camp
          • Assist with the facilitation and coordination of the camp
          • Develop activities which promote the agency’s mission, which could be implemented at the camp

West 7th Family Center Early Childhood Education

 

Description of the West 7th Family Center

The West 7th Family Center offers drop-in play time for parents and caregivers that increase socialization opportunities for both caregivers and children.  The West 7th Family Center prides itself on creating a warm, welcoming, and safe environment for caregivers to play and interact with their children.  The center is open Monday through Friday, year round, from 9:00am-12:00pm.  The West 7th Family Center receives visits from over 3,000 parents, caregivers, and children each year who participate in both structured and unstructured activities.

 

Time Requirements:

  • Internship hours must be completed during typical family center hours; 9:00am-12:00pm, Monday through Friday
  • Intern will be directly supervised by the Program Coordinator who oversees the West 7th Family Center.  

Possible Internship Projects/Responsibilities

  • Welcome families to the playroom
  • Greet and ensure that all parents/caregivers and children are signed in
  • Create and maintain a safe, nurturing physical and emotional environment
  • Help coordinate and implement all educational and enrichment programming
  • Role model positive parenting techniques
  • Provide Family Center and community resources to families
  • Create implement art activities
  • Assist in creating and implementing new programming
  • Report to Program Coordinator to resolve inquiries and complaints
  • Serve as a liaison between parents, community resources and agency staff
  • Assist Program Coordinator in maintaining the playroom’s safety and cleanliness
  • Assist in maintaining and organization (toys, supplies, food items) within the playroom and storage areas
